Ce projet s’interroge sur la participation croissante des pastoralistes dans des mouvements politiques. Jusqu’à une date récente ils n’étaient guère visibles sur le plan politique. Cependant, durant les décennies passées leur mode de vie est en voie de déclin sous l’impact des sécheresses climatiques et l’avancement d’un élevage commercialisé. Leurs espaces de pâturages n’ont pas cessées de diminuer en face d’une population croissante.
Un grand nombre parmi eux a décidé de chercher des espaces plus au Sud, à la recherche de pâturages plus verdoyants et pour une meilleure connexion aux marchés des grand centres urbains dans les pays côtiers. Ce faisant, ils rencontrent une population encore plus hostile à leur mode de vie mobile et des problèmes avec les représentants de l’État sur place. Ce projet de recherche donne de la visibilité aux nomades et aux problèmes qu’ils rencontrent.

À l'heure actuelle, Nomade Sahel intègre des sous-projets au Mali. Des sous-projets supplémentaires sont prévus au Tchad, au Niger et au Burkina Faso.

About
Pastoralists are increasingly participating in political movements and agitation in the Sahel. However, over the past decades their livelihoods have eroded under the impact of drought and the emergence of commercial herding. Pastures have decreased in surface area because of the population growth.
Many of them are moving southwards to look for greener pastures and to be connected to markets for their products. However, they encounter an ever more hostile population and problems with representatives of government. This research project gives visibility to the nomads and the problems they encounter.

Digital Warfare in the Sahel
Project mission
Since 2012 the Sahel has become a conflict zone. This website communicates about the role of popular networks, especially of people who originally are nomadic pastoralists, in warfare and conflict. These networks are both in the physical and digital space. We discover this world through ethnographic and computational methods. (read more)

Nomadesahel stands for various aspects of this research project. It refers to the main groups with whom we work in this project: the Fulani. It refers to the methodology that we adopt: Networks in context; and it refers to ourselves as researchers, travelers. (read more)
