On her last day in N’Djaména, Luca Bruls was invited to talk about her research and experiences in Chad at Le N’Djam Post, a local news platform. During the interview, that was posted as part of the website’s series storytelling, the journalist encourages Luca to discuss why she chose her field of studies, how she learned the Chadian dialect, and how she experienced communicating with religious authorities.

In the 9-minute video, Luca narrates a moving experience she had when she first witnessed the joy of chanting madih on the roads with a friend who months later passed away. She elaborates about two female Chadian role models, whom she met  while studying Tijani networks. And she closes of speaking of her experience working in Chad: the difficulties interlocutors face, as well as the resilience and communal optimism.

The video’s stirred diverse response. Stay tuned for more reflection on an ethnography gone viral.
